First Petunia Seed Sprout

The first petunia sprout poked up overnight. I'm starting cascade trailing petunias from seed. I started them exactly a week ago. The seeds can take 7 to 21 days to sprout. Update: just a couple of hours later, there were 7 sprouts! Update 2: As of Monday, 22 sprouts!

  1. Congratulations!! I was at the Des Moines Home and Garden Show yesterday (Saturday) and seeing all those growing tulips and other flowers, well, let's just say I can feel spring is on its way!

    Take care.

  4. Hi! I know this is 2 years later but I have been searching internet for some info I could not find. My petunia seedlings (only about 2 mm now) are very crowded and I am wondering what is the best time to transplant them to single pots. How big were they when you transplanted? and when did you transplant outside?

  5. Elenska - thanks for stopping by with a question. I transferred the seedlings to bigger pots when they were about 4 inches tall, although they really flopped over at that point. That's the way they always looked, I think because they were vine-types. I put them outside the third week in May, directly in hanging baskets. They thrived for the whole season and did better than the plants I bought from a store.
