This tree underwent some extreme pruning in the spring. It didn't hurt pear production. We have more than we can possibly eat. My guess is that these are Bartlett pears. They do not ripen on the vine. We pick them and they ripen weeks later.

Plethora of Pears

A bumper crop of pears this year. An Eat Boise reader tells me they are Bartlett pears. They do not ripen on the tree, they ripen weeks after harvest.

Pear Blossoms

The pear tree is blooming. There are a lot of ornamental pear trees in the neighborhood in bloom right now. Our pear is a real one. I don't know what kind of pears because we inherited the tree when we bought the house. They could be Bartlett. They're good, but they don't ripen on the vine. You have to pick them and then wait a couple of weeks.

Decaying Pears

A display of...decaying pears. I don't really know how this happened. I suspect my daughter lined them up on the stones when we were picking up pears after a windstorm, and then, I just forgot they were there? I need to dig out my gardening gloves to clean them up.

50 mph Wind Gust

A beautiful, sunny day and then bam! And bam, and bam. Big winds knocked dozens of pears off my tree, with many crashing into the house and fence. When the danger of getting conked in the head passed, I went out and scooped them up - they'll ripen later. I don't know what kind of pears these are, but they never ripen on the tree. It always happens after they're picked.
