Leucistic American Robin

Leucism affects the pigment in birds' feathers. It's seen in the white patches all over this American Robin. I counted this bird during today's session for the Great Backyard Bird Count.

Baby Robin

I thought I saw a new kind of bird in the yard this week. It was high up on a branch, and since I'm near-sighted, I couldn't see it very well until I zoomed in on the photo after taking it off my camera. I was thinking maybe it was a kind of wren. Now I see it's a baby robin :)

Nest-Building

I thought this little dear was going to build a nest in the river birch. She built just a few feet away in the crab apple tree, instead.

The crab apple tree is big business for birds this week. The fruit must be just right. Robins were the most popular customers Sunday.

A robin perched in a river birch tree. They're not singing yet. We know spring is on the way when they do start singing. They sing loudest in the morning and the evening.
