These friendly, chatty Oregon dark-eyed juncos spend their winters in Boise.

The Juncos are ground feeders. If you have a bird feeder start adding in about 20% millet to your feed. The Finches won't eat the millet but will kick it onto the ground for the Juncos and other ground feeders that winter over here like the Mourning Doves. Adding the millet to a feeder acts like a natural metering method, rather than spreading it on the ground to spoil or be covered by snow it gets dispersed gradually.
