Downy Woodpecker

This little cutie was busy at the base of the crab apple tree yesterday. The downy woodpecker is listed as the smallest woodpecker in North America. This is a female.

Cedar Waxwings Return

The crab apples are frozen, but evidently ready for eating. Cedar waxwings, robins, starlings and blackbirds feasting daily.

Herbs Growing Indoors

One of the garden "saves" from last growing season: a rosemary plant. Some are hardy, but the last few I've planted haven't been, so I decided this one will live indoors every winter. It's really nice to have a plant to clip for recipes.
