So Many Plants are Waking Up

Welcome February, and no matter what that groundhog in Pennsylvania said, spring is definitely making its ways to Boise. My first flower of the season: a dandelion. Incredible! And great food for any insects always waking up.
This is stonecrop, a sedum, sending up new growth. Many other types of sedum are evergreen.
 Strawberries! Yum.
I found daffodils poking up under leaf litter, along with tulips. Love the pink on these leaves.

Full Wolf Moon, a.k.a. "Mini-Moon"

The January full moon is called the Wolf Moon. It's also a mini-moon, the opposite of the super moon hype. The difference in appearance of size isn't likely to be something we can really notice, but it happens a couple of hours after the moon rises.

Bird Bath Heater is Working

At -7 degrees, still ice-free. Birds need a source of water when it's cold so they can take a sip every now and then.

Fresh Coat of Fluff

More moisture for our lawns and gardens today, while they're still sleeping. I do have a friend who told me she saw her daffodils poking up. I didn't see any in my yard yet. You?

Ice in the Garden

While I am concerned about the damage the extreme cold has done to my garden, this icicle display is O.K. The clematis vines are cut to the ground in the spring anyway.

Green Grass?

I was excited to see some green grass on the front lawn this week...but a closer inspection shows that it is moss. Not grass, not yet.

Strange Carcass

Whatever this critter was, it appeared to have far more legs than normal. Maybe those are twigs entwined in the web?

Snow, Rain, Snow!

Our weather pattern has turned to snow, rain, snow...and about an hour after I took this photo last night, back to rain :)

Kitty Indoor Lawnmowers

I am growing a few little containers of wheat grass for winter kitty snacks. As you can see, they're a big hit.
