Seed-Starting

The first round of seed-starting is underway. Tomatoes, cabbage, basil, zinnias and marigolds. We're 8-10 weeks away from outdoor planting here in Boise. Seed-starting for cucumbers, summer squash and pumpkins is on the calendar for next month.

We too have our seedlings started. In the past the craft sticks with their bleeding print and failure to last through the season caused us to give up on them, we now make our own sticks from cutting plastic milk jugs with kitchen scissors into plant stakes and marking them with Sharpies. They seem to hold up better over the growing season and will be tossed into the recycling bin at the end of the season.

What a great idea for plant stakes! Thanks!
