Taking Down the Hummingbird Feeder
This chunk of ice probably won't help any lingering hummers. I haven't seen any hummingbirds, but I wanted to offer help, just in case.

Hummingbird in Mallow
Add mallow to the list of plants hummingbirds like. I've seen them dining on honeysuckle, agastache (hyssop), delphinium, zinnias, orange carpet, cat mint, bee balm and lavender this year. They also sip from the hummingbird feeders.

Hang a Feeder and They Will Come
No need to buy hummingbird nectar the store, either. Just mix one part sugar to 4 parts water. Stir to dissolve. That's it. The trick in this hot weather is to change the feeders every day because the sugar solution goes bad in extreme heat.

Still Waiting
Hummingbirds usually return to our yard about May 1st. I put up feeders last weekend, but haven't seen any customers yet. Hummingbird food recipe: 1 part sugar, 4 parts water. No need to add coloring, or boil. Just stir to dissolve the sugar. I refresh the feeders once a week early in the season and about every 2-3 days when it gets hot.
