Tomato Cages

Leaf Composting

It was time last weekend to turn over the leaf compost. Autumn leaves were shredded with the mower and heaped on the garden beds. I worked them into the soil. Next, I'll test the soil pH and fertility levels and make adjustments over the next few weeks. Potatoes, snow peas and beets will be the first plantings.

Yellow Christmas Cactus

New Feeder Visitors

Two black-capped chickadees at the front yard platform feeder this morning. First time I've seen them in the yard.

Pine Siskins and Goldfinches

I used to think pine siskins were American goldinches in winter colors. Left to right: pine siskin, pine siskin, goldfinch, goldfinch, pine siskin.
