A female Oregon Junco picking through the frosty grass for breakfast. The Juncos, house finches, pine siskins and house sparrows are winter buddies in my yard.
Ah, sweet birdie! We used to have a finch family regularly nest in a spot on my front porch, until the new school across the street broke ground last summer. It seemed like the "kids" showed up all summer, looking for a free meal from mom I guess, but she was long gone. Nobody set up a new nest, either - maybe this coming spring?
